Henry ‘Harry’ Brand (1907-1979) clerk, trade union leader, city councillor 

Birth: 14 July 1907 in Dandenong, Victoria, son of Margaret Brand. Marriage: 10 February 1934 at Melbourne registry office to Hilda Violet Wayland, machinist. They had four daughters. Death: 20 April 1979 at Heidelberg, Melbourne, Victoria. 

  • Worked as a case maker in the 1930s.
  • Served with RAAF during WWII.
  • 1950 vice-president and 1955-1965 Victorian president of Clerks Union. Anti-communist. Member federal council of union.
  • Delegate to Melbourne Trades Hall Council and Australian Council of Trade Unions Congress.
  • Representative on Victorian Law Clerks’ wages board. Active in municipal and social welfare work.
  • Councillor, City of Coburg.
  • Director Clerks’ Union Co-operative Housing Society.
