Arthur Edmund Watson (1892-1941) carpenter and trade union official

Birth: 17 May 1892 at Maryborough, Queensland, son of Robert Joseph Watson (1862-1927), sea captain, possibly born at Melbourne, Victoria, and Emily Dorothy, née Gibson (1857-1934), born at Melbourne. Marriage: 30 June 1913 at St Joseph’s Church, Townsville, Qld, to Mary Ethel Crawley, of Belfast Ireland. They had no children. Death: 28 August 1941 in Waterfall Sanatorium, Bulli, NSW; usual residence Gregory Street, Enfield, Sydney. Religion: Catholic. 

  • In 1928 defeated he John Lenehan to become general secretary and NSW secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters. Held office for twelve years in the interwar period.
  • Cause of death: pulmonary tuberculosis (9 years).
