Donald Edgerton (Don) Scott (1915-1979) painter, trade union official and Communist 

Birth: 1915 at Melbourne, Victoria, son of James Brough Scott (1886-1979), a painter and decorator, born at Perth, Scotland, and Bertha Mary, née Tall (1890-1969). Marriage: 11 October 1940 at the office of the Government Statist, Melbourne, to Doris (Dorothy) Gordon (1916-?), photographer, born at Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England. They had one daughter. Death: 8 November 1979 in his home at Kerr Street, Blackburn, Victoria. 

  • His father was an official of the Operative Painters and Decorators Union of Australia
  • Don was a member the federal council of the OPDUA, being a representative from Victoria.
  • He was president of the Victorian Branch of the OPDUA from 1948.
  • Member of the Communist Party of Australia. During the Communist Party split in 1962-1964 he was the publisher of the Marxist-Leninist press.
  • Cause of death: cor pulmonale (2-3 years) and emphysema (10-15 years).
