Michael John Reddy (1859-1925) presser, trade union official and clothing manufacturer

Birth: 1859 at Waterford, Ireland, son of Edward John Reddy, blacksmith, and Mary, née Fitzgerald. Marriage: 1886 in Victoria to Annie Coleman (1862-1930). They had one daughter and one son. Death:18 September 1925 in the War Memorial Hospital, Randwick, Sydney, New South Wales; usual residence at Waverley, Sydney. Religion: Catholic. 

  • Arrived in Victoria about 1883. Moved to New South Wales about 1893.
  • In 1898 was alternative delegate to E. J. Kavanagh of Pressers’ Union of NSW to 8 Hours Demonstration committee.
  • In 1905 was alternative delegate of the Pressers Union to the Political Labor League annual congress.
  • Commissioned justice of peace in 1911.
  • Secretary Pressers' Union of NSW until 1916, when he became an employer.
  • Cause of death: cholelithiasis, impaction of stone in common duct, rupture of gall bladder.
