Alexander (Alec) Ramsay (1876-1958) carpenter and trade union official

Birth: 1876 at Forfar, Scotland, son of Alexander Ramsay, wood turner, and Ann, née Ree. Marriage: 31 December 1904 at Dundee, Scotland to Helen Baxter (1879-1927). They had three daughters. Death: 15 June 1958 at Fremantle, Western Australia. Religion: Presbyterian. 

  • Arrived in Western Australia with his wife and elder daughters about 1911.
  • Secretary of the Fremantle branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners from 1921 to 1947 (retired).
  • Was a carpenter employed by the Fremantle Harbour Trust in the 1920s and 1930s.
  • A member of the Australian Labor Party, he was a candidate for preselection for the seat of North-East Fremantle in January 1927.
  • Cause of death: myocardial degeneration.
