Birth: 14 February 1882 at Everton, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, son of Thomas Price (1852-1909), stonemason, later Premier of South Australia, and Anne Elizabeth, née Lloyd (1860-1950). Marriage: 18 February 1914 at Burra, South Australia, to native-born Elsie Isabel McBride (1886-1963). They had one daughter and one son. Death: 23 April 1941 at Unley, SA. Religion: Methodist; buried after an Anglican service and a state funeral. 

  • Arrived in Australia about 1883.
  • Educated at Mitcham and Unley Public Schools, Studied at Business Training College and School of Mines .
  • Joined State Civil Service, 1898-1915, held various positions in railways. Executive member of Railway Officers' Association. Secretary of the Federal Masters and Engineers' Association. General president of the SA Government General Workers' Association.
  • President of the Trades and Labour Council of SA. President and secretary of SA branch of the Australian Labor Party.
  • Councillor and alderman, Port Adelaide City Council.
  • Member of the House of Assembly (SA) for Port Adelaide from 1915 until he resigned on 21 April 1925. Was secretary of the Parliamentary Labor Party 1915-1925.
  • Agent-General for South Australia in London from April 1925 to April 1928.
  • Elected member of the Australian House of Representatives for seat of Boothby on 17 November 1928. Secretary of Federal Parliamentary Labor Party 1929-1931. Member of ALP to 15 March 1931, independent until 5 May 1931, then United Australia Party member. Secretary of the Independent Australia party which amalgamated with UAP of which he then became the secretary. Government whip 1940 to 1941. Died in office.
  • Cause of death: coronary disease of the heart.
  • His son Squadron Leader Thomas MacBride Price (1915-1996), an accountant, served in the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in June 1941.
