Roy Charles Phillips (1910-1967) blacksmith and boilermaker and trade union official 

Birth: 1910 at Glebe Point, Sydney, New South Wales, son of Charles Joseph Phillips, coal lumper, and Florence, née Bowling. Marriage: 1929 at North Sydney to Vera Dorothy Mary Dash (d.1966). They had three daughters. Death: 28 February 1967 at Balmain district hospital, Sydney; usual residence Manchester Road, Gymea, Sydney. Religion: Anglican. 

  • Joined Boilermaker-Blacksmiths’ Society in 1931. Organiser for Sydney branch for 16 years. Executive member of union.
  • Active in unemployed movement in Depression years.
  • Member of the Australian Labor Party from about 1932 and executive officer of NSW ALP for one term. Opposed the Industrial Group within the party. Candidate for Sutherland shire council in December 1947 elections.
  • Cause of death: broncho pneumonia (7 days) and carcinoma of lung (1 year).
