McCulloch, Neil Oliver (1904-1967) electrician and trade union official 

Birth: 17 November 1904 at Abbotshan, near Ulverstone, Tasmania, son of native-born parents Thomas (Tom) McCulloch (1877-1905) and Gertrude Leonora, née Broadfield (1877-1954). Marriage: 6 February 1929 to native-born Grace Irene Beatrice Harris (1905-1966). They had two daughters and three sons. Death: 20 May 1967 at North Hobart oval, usual residence Lord Street, Sandy Bay, Hobart. Religion: Presbyterian. 

  • Junior mechanic in training 1921-1925. Mechanic, Oatlands 1926; Transferred to mechanical exchange staff Hobart 1928. To mechanical telephone workshops 1930 and became senior mechanic 1938. Supervising technician from 1952.
  • Joined Postal Telecommunications Technicians’ Association (PTTA) in 1922; vice-President PTTA from 1929 to 1931; president from 1932 to 1944? or 46?.
  • Member, federal council 1941-1943 and 1946-60. Executive councillor, Tasmanian branch, about 1943 to at least 1951 holding vice-presidency 1949-1951.
  • Honorary secretary of the Tasmanian branch from about 1946 to 1967. Made life member in 1951. Retired as technician 1954.
  • Cause of death: coronary occlusion and coronary thrombosis.
