Francis James (Frank) McCart (1876-1948) public servant and trade union official

Birth: 18 May 1876 at Guildford, Victoria, son of Francis Patrick McCart (1837-1922), public servant, and Margaret, née Mackin (1841-1901). Both parents had been born at Tandragee, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Marriages: (1) 1899 at Melbourne to Evelyn Victoria Haysom (1881-1947). They had three daughters and two sons. (2) 1947 at Melbourne to Evelyn May Nicholl. Death: 2 January 1948 in his residence at Denbigh Road, Armadale, Victoria. 

  • Appointed to Public Service in 1890.
  • Was a founding member of the Federated Public Service Assistants’ Association. Secretary of the Victorian branch from about 1911 to 1941?. General President of Federal Council.
  • Association representative in Arbitration proceedings. Member of the High Council of Commonwealth Public Service Organisations.
  • Representative Fourth Division of union on Appeals Board. Officer-in-charge, Melbourne Stock Exchange. Retired 1941.
  • Cause of death: tumour in cerebra (2 months).
