Colin William (Col) Horan (1918-2007) seaman, bus driver, trade unionist and Communist
Birth: 1918 at Paddington, Sydney, New South Wales, son of native-born parents William Cornelius Horan (1863-1940), farmer, and Josephine Magdalen, née Stokes (1892-1973). Marriage: 1942 at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Stockton, Newcastle, NSW, to Leah McClure (1922-2008), born at Templepatrick, Antrim, Northern Ireland. They had one daughter and one son. Death: 7 July 2007 at Newcastle, NSW. Religion: Catholic.
- Served as assistant steward in Australian Merchant Navy. Was a rigger and seaman after the war. Lived at Stockton, Newcastle.
- From about 1945 worked as a bus driver.
- Australian Tramways and Motor Omnibus Employees Association (ATMOEA) activist. Organiser of No. 2 branch, of the union.
- Member of Newcastle branch of Communist Party of Australia.
