Cyril Trevor Hasse (1890-1967) trade union official, company director and Labor activist 

Birth: 21 October 1890 at New Thebarton, South Australia, son of Frederick Nelson Wellington Albert Hasse (1852-1937), a cabinet-maker, born at Tredegar, Monmouthshire, Wales, and Jane Lawry, née Webb (1853-1917), born at Liskeard, Cornwall, England. Marriage: 23 August 1913 at St Matthew Church, Kensington, SA, to Harriet Agnes Pearson (1890-1983). They had three daughters and one son. Death: 19 November 1967 at Firle, Adelaide, SA. 

  • His father was the proprietor of Hasse Frock Shops.
  • Cyril was sometime president of the Federated Carters and Drivers, city branch Union and its delegate to the United Labor Party.
  • Secretary, Workers’ Industrial Union of Australia, SA Branch. This One Big Union clashed frequently with the Australian Workers’ Union in a number of industrial disputes.
  • Sometime president of the Norwood Ratepayers’ Association, he was a Labor councillor in the Kensington and Norwood corporation for ten years from 1935.
  • Endorsed ALP candidate for Onkaparinga in the House of Assembly in 1944 and stood for Gawler in the Federal House of Representatives in 1949.
  • An experienced businessman, he had been a traveller on behalf of Kreem Freeze Products Ltd and the Glutina Bread Process Company and was a director of both firms.
  • In his younger days he was keen on football and was an umpire for eight years and took an interest in sporting bodies, particularly the tennis clubs.
  • Cause of death: myocardial infarction and coronary artery ischaemia.
