Harvey, William Hector (Bill) (1911–1971) ironworker and trade union official 

Birth: 1911 at Sydney New South Wales, son of William Martin (Martin) Harvey, labourer, and Margaret, née Sinclair. Marriage: 17 November 1933 at Salvation Army Hall, Goulburn, NSW, to native-born Trixie Catherine Goodchild (1914-2001). They had six daughters and two sons. Death: 14 September 1971 in a nursing home at Blacktown, NSW; usual residence Eggleton street, Blacktown. Religion: Methodist. 

  • Began working life as an ironworker at Newcastle and became job delegate. Joined Federated Ironworkers’ Association (FIA) about 1939. Moved to Port Kembla about 1950.
  • Worked at Australian Iron & Steel at Port Kembla in various positions. President, FIA Port Kembla branch from 1953 to 1970. Delegate to National Conference. President of Ironworkers Club.
  • Moved to the South Coast after his ill health forced his retirement.
  • Cause of death: cerebral thrombosis, arteriosclerosis and hypertension.
