Lily Victoria (Lil) Hall, née McKendrick, later McDonald (1894-1967) machinist, rubber worker and trade union official 

Birth: 30 June 1894 at Footscray, Victoria, daughter of native-born parents William David McKendrick (1859-1953), carpenter, and Mary Elizabeth, née Wilson (1873-1948). Marriages (1) 24 June 1916 at the Methodist Church, Seddon, to Frederick William Hall (1892-1968). The marriage ended in divorce in December 1922. (2) 1946 at Footscray, to native-born John Alexander (Jack) McDonald (1896-1959), engineer, trade unionist and mayor of Footscray in 1942-1943. Death: 20 December 1967 at Footscray; usual residence Pentland Parade, Seddon, Melbourne, Victoria. Religion: Presbyterian. 

  • Member of the McKendrick family of Footscray. Sister of New Zealand meat-worker and trade unionist William Henry McKendrick (1893-1963).
  • Joined Rubber Workers' Union in 1914 upon starting work at Barnett Glass Rubber Factory, Footscray. Held many positions in union: shop steward, minute secretary for federal council, treasurer, delegate to Trades Hall Council. Female organiser from 1930 to 1960.
  • Vice-president, Australian Labor Party Women's Central Organising Committee in 1946. “Miss Hall” was president in 1947-1948. Retired, made life member in 1961.
  • Well known 'in the Footscray area as the doyen of Labor Municipal and Parliamentary circles'.
  • Cause of death: erythaemic myelosis.
