Birth: 24 November 1851 at Paisley, Scotland, son of John Gibson (1823-1877), soldier, weaver and later ironworker, and Janet, née McAllister (1825-1871). Marriage: 1877 at Abbotsford, Victoria, to Jane Ann Snoswell Murray (1855-1930), born in Adelaide, South Australia. They had one daughter and one son. Death: 1 January 1927 at North Carlton, Melbourne.
