Edward George (Ted) Deverall (1915-1995) engineer, draughtsman, trade union official and arbitration commissioner

Birth: 20 August 1915 in North Carlton, Victoria, son of native-born parents George William Deverall (1892-1977), trade union official, and Florence Nellie, née Fitzgerald (1893-1954). Marriage: 20 August 1937 at Surrey Hills, Victoria, to native-born Jean Lillian Garner (1915-2003). They had one son. Death: 14 November 1995 in hospital at Prahran, Victoria. Religion: Anglican. 

  • In 1951 he was divisional secretary of the Association of Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and Draughtsmen of Australia.
  • Advocate for the Australian Council of Trade Unions in the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission in 1959.
  • In 1961-1962 was industrial advocate and arbitration agent for the Amalgamated Engineering Union and in 1964 industrial officer for the Administrative and Clerical Officers’ Association.
  • Appointed conciliator under the Federal Conciliation and Arbitration Act on 20 May 1968, and on September 1968 promoted to commissioner.
  • In 1976 he was a member of the Committee of Reference for Defence Forces Pay.
  • His term as commissioner expired in 1980. Subsequently worked as special arbitrator.
