Louis (Lou) Collins (1889-1956) motor driver, trade union leader and community activist 

Birth: 1889 at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, son of John Collins (1846-1913), labourer, born in Bedfordshire, England, and native-born Lucy Emily, née Galvin (1853-1900). Marriage: 1915 at Wagga Wagga to Myra Isabel McGregor (1898-1973), who was born in Wagga Wagga. They had five sons and four daughters. Death: 27 January 1956 at Wagga Wagga. Religion: Anglican. 

  • Employed by Wagga City Council for 44 years and secretary of the Wagga branch of the Municipal Employees’ Union for more than 30 years. Active in the Australian Labor Party north Wagga Wagga branch.
  • Deeply immersed in Wagga community affairs. Secretary of North Wagga Wagga Australian Rules Football Club 1935-1950 and associated with school boy football in Riverina.
  • Treasurer of North Wagga Parent’s and Citizens’ Association for some years, treasurer North Wagga Wagga Recreation Grounds and treasurer North Wagga Wagga Citizens Boys’ Club.
