Herbert Lindsay Carter, known as Lindsay Carter (1918-1965), accountant and trade union official 

Birth: 14 October 1918 at Thornton, Victoria, son of Victorian-born parents Thomas Henry Carter (1877-1962), estate agent, and Maude Emily, née Spencer (1887-1981). Marriage: 13 October 1951 at Malvern, Victoria, to Alice Victoria Higgins, née Symons (1910-1998). They had one daughter. Death: 8 July 1965 at Mitcham, Victoria. Religion: Presbyterian. 

  • Worked as an accountant and was admitted a member of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries in Victoria in June 1940.
  • Served in Australian Imperial Force in World War II.
  • Assistant federal secretary of Municipal Officers’ Association of Australia and federal treasurer, ACSPA (Australian Council of Salaried and Professional Associations), for many years post WW II.
  • Worked in close collaboration with Victorian and Federal branch officers of Australian Bank Officers’ Association and AISF (Australian Insurance Staffs’ Federation).
  • Cause of death: carcinoma of lower oesophagus.
