Birth: 25 May 1886 at Patricks Plains [Singleton], New South Wales, son of native-born parents Patrick Carroll (1851-1929), labourer, and Margaret Helena, née McDonald (1859-1913). Marriage: 1912 at New Lambton, NSW, to Isabel Bell (1888-1973). They had a daughter and two sons. Death: 7 February 1967 in a private hospital at Raymond Terrace, NSW. Religion: Catholic.
