Bevan, Stanley Charles (1901-1987) timberworker and sawyer, trade union leader, parliamentarian

Birth: 14 October 1901 in Norwood, Adelaide, South Australia, son of Charles Claude Bevan, bootmaker, and Caroline, née Smith. Marriage: 2 April 1934 at the Queen of Angel’s Church, Thebarton, Adelaide, to Ida Anne Agnes Conroy, music teacher. They had three childdren. Death: 19 September 1987 in Adelaide. Religion: Roman Catholic.

Educated at Thebarton Street School.
Secretary, Miscellaneous Workers Union, 1942-52 and federal secretary 1947-56.
Subject to power play by New South Wales Branch and Arthur Gietzelt in 1955 and resigned when position became untenable.
President, SA United Trades and Labor Council, 1951-52, 1955-56.
President, SA Branch of the Australian Labor Party in 1952-53. Chairman, Transport Control Board, SA
Member of the Legislative Council of South Australia 1951-1970. Local Government, Minister for Roads and Mines, 1965-66.
