Charles Edward (Charlie) Arnold (1903–1981) electrician and trade union leader

Born on 18 July 1903 at Warragul, Victoria, son of Albert Edward Arnold, seaman, labourer, and later farmer, and Elizabeth Mary (Lilly), née McRae. Married 4 February 1928 at Rye Presbyterian Church to Ivy May Hall (1901-1990). Died 15 May 1981 at Rye, Victoria. 

  • 1930 elected to Victorian branch executive of Postal Telecommunication Technicians' Association; assistant secretary 1943-47; secretary 1948, appointed full-time 1949.
  • 1954 elected General Secretary; Delegate to ALP, competent arbitration advocate providing ‘wise counsel’.
  • 1959 awarded MBE.
  • 1963 Retired to Rye on Mornington Peninsula.
