Birth: on Christmas Day 1891 at Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland, son of Hugh Marshall (1858-1912), a journeyman shoemaker, and Annie, née Hamilton (1860-1938). Marriage: 1 July 1918 at Bowen Hills, Queensland, to Sydney-born Iris Merle Jameson (1893-1984). They had a son and a daughter. Death: 9 March 1961 in his residence at Midson Street, Stafford, Brisbane. Religion: Presbyterian.
