GASCOYNE WILLIAMS was born on 12th April, 1891, at Prahran, Victoria, and is the son of Mr. Frederick Gascoyne Williams and Mrs. Florence Margaret Williams, of Armadale, Victoria. He was educated at Blenheim College, and entered the Bank’s service at Nelson, New Zealand, on 6th July, 1908. He was transferred to Head Office on 8th February, 1911; to Rockdale, as assistant, on 10th January, 1913; to Parramatta, as ledger-keeper, on 7th November; to Townsville, Queensland, on 5th June, 1914, and to Cloncurry on 23rd September of the same year.
Gascoyne Williams enlisted on 18th October, 1915. He did service with the 58th Infantry Battalion in France, and was in action at Polygon Wood, Passchendaele, Messines, Villers-Bretonneux and the Somme. In October, 1917, he was promoted to sergeant and left France on 30th May, 1918, after having been twice wounded. Altogether he completed nearly four years service.
