
GEORGE BELSON WHITE, son of Mr. B. G. White and the late Mrs. White, of Mullumbimby, New South Wales, was born at Gunnedah, New South Wales, on 4th February, 1891. He was educated at the Public School, Tenterfield, and entered the service of the Bank at Murwillumbah on 13th July, 1909. He was promoted to ledger-keeper on 25th November, 1912, and to teller on 9th October, 1914.
George White enlisted in the A.I.F. on 14th June, 1915, and left Australia with the 18th Battalion Reinforcements on 23rd December, 1915. Landing in Egypt in January, 1916, he joined up with the 3rd Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir on 14th February, and afterwards went to France. He fought with the 3rd Battalion at Pozieres, Ypres and Flers, and continued with them until leaving for Australia. He was promoted to the rank of pay-sergeant on 10th January, 1917.
During the whole of his service with the A.I.F. George Belson White was neither wounded nor gassed. He returned to Sydney on 15th September, 1919.
