
CARL WILLIAM WARBURTON was born on 27th November, 1892, at Millthorpe, New South Wales, the son of Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Isabella Warburton. He was educated at Millthorpe and Bathurst Schools, and entered the service of the Bank on 31 st August, 1910, at Millthorpe. He was transferred to Head Office in November, 1912, and to Dungog, New South Wales, in August, 1913.
Carl William Warburton enlisted as a private in the A.I.F. in January, 1915. He served as a member of the 17th Battalion in Egypt during July, 1915, and on Gallipoli from August of that year. He went to France in March, 1916. Attending instructional classes at Oxford he passed the examination for second-lieutenant, and returned to France. He was wounded in action at Amiens and invalided to England for three months, afterwards returning to the front as first-lieutenant.
