EGMONT PALMER WALKER, son of Hon. James Thomas Walker, of Sydney (one of the Directors of the Bank), and Mrs. Janette Isabella Walker, was born on 2nd June, 1881, at Brisbane, and was educated at the Cooerwull Academy, Bowenfels, New South Wales.

He enlisted in Sydney in March, 1916, and served as a driver in the 24th Company of the Australian Army Service Corps. He was afterwards transferred to the 8th Squadron, Australian Flying Corps and was promoted to lieutenant.
