LAUDE STANLEY SOLOMON, son of the late Mr. Claude and Mrs. Phoebe Ann Solomon, was born on 19th November, 1892, at West Maitland, New South Wales, and received his education at St. Leonards Superior Public School, North Sydney, and the Sydney High School. He joined the Bank’s service on 27th July, 1909, at Head Office.

Claude Stanley Solomon enlisted on 20th March, 1916, in the 9th Australian Machine Gun Company, with which he embarked for active service on 1 st May, 1916, later on becoming a member of the 3rd Machine Gun Battalion upon its formation.

He was promoted to the rank of corporal on 3rd November, 1917, and to lance-sergeant on 1st May, 1918, and was mentioned in despatches, vide Commonwealth “Government Gazette,” No. 124, of 30th October, 1919. He served in France from November, 1916, until April, 1919, taking part in the Battle of Messines in June, 1917, the Battles of Zonnebeke and Passchendaele in the following October, and in the Somme battles from March to October, 1918. He embarked for Australia on 13th June, 1919.
