Winifred Kelly (c.1833-1897) a housemaid, arrived in Melbourne aboard the Pemberton in 1849 with her two sisters Anna and Hannah, as one of the 4000 Irish orphan girls sent to the Australian colonies in 1848-1850. Winifred was born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland. Her parents were John Kelly, weaver, & Ann Slattery. She was employed for three years by Maria Smith, saddler, Melbourne, at an annual wage of £8.
Kelly married James Smith in 1851; the couple had eight children.
Winifred Smith died on 5 July 1910 at North Melbourne and was interred at Melbourne General Cemetery the next day.
