Edward Syfleet was sentenced to life transportation for housebreaking. He arrived in Sydney in 1829 aboard the Layton. He changed his name to Scifleet in Australia. He was given a ticket of leave in 1838, a conditional pardon in 1842 and a full pardon in 1843. He married Jane McKellar in 1842.
