ROYDON HAMILTON RHODES was born at Adelaide, South Australia, on 22nd August, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Rhodes, and was educated at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide. He entered the Bank’s service at Adelaide on 19th March, 1908; was transferred in the following November to Port Adelaide; in January, 1910, to Broken Hill; and in January, 1911, returned to Adelaide, where he remained (except for a few months, January-May, 1913, as assistant at Mt. Gambier, S.A.) until he enlisted.
Roydon Rhodes enlisted in the A.I.F. on 17th November, 1915, and left Australia in June, 1917. He won promotion to acting-corporal in September, 1917, and was in active service in France for about a year, being attached to the 13th Machine Gun Company. In January, 1919, he was promoted to extra regimental-corporal, and was discharged on 18th of the following October.
