Robert William (Bob) Parkin (1860-1912) engineer and trade union official

Birth: 22 June 1860 at Chewton, Victoria, son of English-born parents John Arthur Parkin (1827-1891), storekeeper, from Hull, Yorkshire, and Elizabeth, née Cowper (1837-1908), from Arlington, Sussex. Marriage: 1902 at Carlton, Victoria, to Ada Louise Porta (1880-1959), born at Fitzroy, Melbourne.  They had one son and one daughter. Death: 2 March 1912 in his residence at Wilson Street, North Carlton, Victoria. 

  • Secretary of the Melbourne branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers by January 1889. Sometime Australasian councilman and secretary of the Australasian Council of Engineers.
  • Elected Australasian representative of ASE to delegate meeting in Manchester, England, in 1901.
  • Trustee of Australasian Council which office he held at the time of his death.
  • Cause of death: chronic bronchitis (10) years, peripheral neuritis (2 months) and septic bronchopneumonia (2 days).
