Birth: 22 June 1860 at Chewton, Victoria, son of English-born parents John Arthur Parkin (1827-1891), storekeeper, from Hull, Yorkshire, and Elizabeth, née Cowper (1837-1908), from Arlington, Sussex. Marriage: 1902 at Carlton, Victoria, to Ada Louise Porta (1880-1959), born at Fitzroy, Melbourne. They had one son and one daughter. Death: 2 March 1912 in his residence at Wilson Street, North Carlton, Victoria.
