Johanna Nugent (c. 1835–1899)

  • Johanna Morrissey arrived (as Johanna Morrisen) at Tasmania in February 1855 aboard the Flora McDonald under the indentured scheme. Se was listed as being 20 years old, a Roman Catholic, had had no education and her occupation was given as house servant. She came with Ellen (aged 26) and Catherine (aged 25) Morrissen (probably her sisters).
  • Morrissey married John James Nugent (who also arrived on the Flora McDonald) on 19 April 1855 at the Catholic Church Westbury, Tasmania.
  • Johanna Nugent died on 20 August 1899 at Deloraine; her cause of death was given as cancer. According to her husband by 1900 they had eight living and five deceased children.
