William Morris was a seaman when he arrived at Sydney aboard the Alexander in January 1788 as part of the First Fleet. He was sent to hospital at Batavia (Jakarta, Indonesia) on the homeward voyage suffering from scurvy but returned, cured, to the ship on 4 December 1788.
