ERNEST CHARLES MILLER was born at Mudgee, New South Wales, on 5th November, 1893, the son of Mr. Harry Miller and Mrs. I. M. Miller, of Gulgong. He was educated at Mudgee, and entered the service of the Bank on 8th May, 1911, at Dubbo, New South Wales. In April, 1913, he was transferred to Narromine, as assistant; in January, 1915, to the Inspector’s Department, Head Office; and in February went to Dunedoo, where he enlisted in the following July.
Ernest Miller left Australia as a private in the 19th Battalion, and saw service in Egypt from 2nd November, 1915, to 20th March, 1916. He then went on to France and was in action there until the Armistice, gaining promotion from corporal to sergeant, and eventually his commission as lieutenant in the 20th Battalion. He returned to Sydney in August, 1919.
