
DANIEL TIMOTHY McAULIFFE, son of Mrs. W. McAuliffe and the late Mr. McAuliffe, was born on 5th December, 1886, at Goondiwindi, Queensland. He was educated at Goondiwindi State School and joined the service of the Bank on 6th August, 1908, at Oakey.
The following is a list of his subsequent appointments:— 1st June, 1909, to Goondiwindi; 17th June, 1909, Chinchilla; 10th June, 1910, Brisbane; 18th February, 1911, Bundaberg; 17th July, 1911, Townsville; 24th July, 1911, Irvinebank; 9th May, 1913, Brisbane; 18th December, 1913, Toowoomba; 26th August, 1914, Cambooya.
He enlisted on 19th September, 1915, and was promoted to second-lieutenant in January, leaving Australia with reinforcements for the 4th Pioneer Battalion.
He arrived in France in June, 1916, and served there and in Belgium until the Armistice. During that period he had received promotion to the rank of captain and was awarded the Croix de Guerre during the great advance of August, 1918.
