James Mapp was a marine 58th (Plymouth) Company when he arrived at Sydney aboard the Alexander in January 1788 as part of the First Fleet. He married Susannah Creswell on 24 February 1788. The couple and their young son William returned to England on the Gorgon in December 1791; William died during the voyage.
