John Long (?–?)

John Long was 2nd lieutenant of marines 55th (Portsmouth) Company when he arrived at Sydney aboard the Scarborough (having being transferred from the Sirius on 26 November) in January 1788 as part of the First Fleet.

In January 1788 Long explored Botany Bay with Governor Phillip, Lieutenant King, Major Ross, Lieutenant Dawes and Lieutenant Ball and was appointed town adjutant on 11 July 1790. Long had a daughter Johanna with Mary Harrison in 1790. It is believed that Harrison and her two daughters returned with Long to England on the Gorgon in December 1791.
