
ROLAND EDWARD LITTLETON was born on 5th May, 1896, at Toowoomba, Queensland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Littleton, of Warwick. He was educated at the Toowoomba Grammar School, and entered the Bank’s service on 27th January, 1916, at the South Brisbane Branch. He was transferred on 25 th March to Bundaberg.
Roland Littleton enlisted in the A.I.F. in May, 1916, and embarked in September for France, where he served for eleven months with the 42nd Infantry Battalion, and took part in the Battles of Armentieres, Messines, Warneton and Passchendaele.
During the latter engagement he was gassed and, returning to England he joined the Reconciliation and Finance Sections of the A.I.F. Headquarters Staff in London. He was promoted to corporal in March, 1918, and to sergeant the following June. He returned to Australia on 1 st October, 1919.
