Joseph Reginald (Reg) Lannan (1907-1986) chairmaker, joiner and trade union official

Birth: 2 March 1907 at Northcote, Victoria, son of native-born parents James Stephen Lannan (1858-1939), farmer, and Emily, née Penglase (1868-1945). Marriage: 28 November 1942 at Immaculate Conception Church, Ivanhoe, Victoria, to Annie Josephine Killeen (1908-1990). They had three sons, one of whom died in infancy. Death: 27 January 1986 in his residence at Elphin Street, Alphington, Melbourne, Victoria. Religion: Catholic. 

  • Member, Committee of Management, Victorian branch, of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners (ASC&J) (Grouper union?) from 1949 to about 1970 including vice-president and president.
  • Delegate to Federal Conference of the ASC&J from 1950 onwards. Federal president of the ASC&J in 1950-1952 and 1965-66, sometime federal treasurer, and federal secretary from 1967 to 1976.
  • Appointed justice of the peace in February 1958.
  • Cause of death: myocardial ischaemia.
