Mark Hurst was a marine in the 41st (Portsmouth) Company when he arrived at Sydney aboard the Scarborough in January 1788 as part of the First Fleet. He served in Captain Watkin Tench's Company at Port Jackson. From September 1788 to December 1789 he worked as a mason and bricklayer.
Hurst was ordered 500 lashes on 27 August 1790 for the theft of rice from the public store. He returned to England on the Gorgon in December 1791.
