LESLIE JAMES HOLLOWAY, son of Mr. Richard and Mrs. Emily L. Holloway, was born at Goulburn, New South Wales, on 30th September, 1890. He was educated at King’s College, Goulburn, and joined the service of the Bank on 16th March, 1908, at Henty. His subsequent transfers were to Coolamon in April, 1908; Ganmain, August, 1908; Coolamon, March, 1911; and Coonamble in November, 1911; and to Head Office in March, 1915.
He enlisted a year later and sailed for England as corporal, but reverted automatically to the ranks on landing. However, he received his stripes in England again in 1917, and became acting-sergeant in April. Subsequently he was offered an appointment as sergeant on the Training Staff, which he declined in order to get into the firing line.
In May, 1917, he was on his way to join his unit in France, when he was intercepted and detailed to assist in holding the line at Bullecourt on 4th May. He was killed five days later by a shell at Bullecourt.
