John James Grant (c.1770-1812) was found guilty on 3 June 1793 at the High Court of Justiciary, Edinburgh, Scotland, of forgery. Sentenced to life transportation, he arrived in Sydney aboard the Surprize in 1794. He married Ann Yeats on 13 November 1800 at St Johns Church, Parramatta and had received an absolute pardon by 1801.
Grant had rented 30 acres of land from S. King by 1806; 16 acres were under cultivation and he was employing two men. He was buried on 12 April 1812 at Sydney; his age was given as 41.
