GEORGE MUNRO EDWARDS was born at Waverley, near Sydney, on 20th February, 1893. He is a brother of Colin Munro Edwards, and was educated at Barker College and the University of Sydney.

George Munro Edwards enlisted on 11th August, 1914, and served with the First Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force in German New Guinea until February, 1915. On returning to Australia he re-enlisted on 4th April, 1918, in the Royal Air Force, and was promoted to second-lieutenant in the following September. He served in the R.A.F. in Egypt from April,
1918, to July, 1919.
