RALPH SYDNEY CUDDEFORD was born at Urangeline Station, near Urana, on 20th December, 1892, and was the son of Mr. Edward and Mrs. Mary Jane Cuddeford. He was educated at St. John’s Grammar School, Parramatta, and later at the Albury Grammar School.
He entered the service of the Bank on 19th February, 1910, at Albury, and was transferred to Wodonga in a few days, and to Lockhart the following year. In 1912 he spent a month in the Inspector’s Department, at Head Office, and his subsequent transfers were to Ryde in 1912; Dulwich Hill, as assistant, in 1914; and to Rockdale, as teller, in 1915.
Ralph Cuddeford enlisted in November, 1915, and sailed for Egypt with the 12th Reinforcements of the 1 st Infantry Battalion in the following month.
From Egypt he proceeded to France and took part in the first charge of Australian troops on the German lines at Pozieres on 23rd July, 1916. During that charge he was killed instantly by a piece of high explosive shell.
