James Crabb was a corporal in the 73rd Regiment of Foot. He arrived in Sydney aboard the Dromedary in December 1809. He married Charlotte Bishop on 18 March 1811 at St John's Church of England, Parramatta. He was promoted to sergeant on 1 October 1813 and left the colony for Ceylon (Sri Lanka) with his regiment aboard the General Brown on 19 December 1814. He died of disease at a general hospital in Ceylon on 12 February 1818.
