John Birchall was sentenced to life transportation at Chester for theft and escaping from gaol. He arrived at Victoria in October 1803 aboard the Calcutta and then in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in February 1804 aboard the Ocean. He was granted an absolute pardon on 24 April 1810.
