Martha's parents, Henry and Ann Saxby née Turner, arrived in Sydney as assisted immigrants in 1840 aboard the Early Grey in 1840. They were accompanied by five of their children, Joseph, 18, Mary, 17, Henry, 12, Richard, 9, and Harriet aged 5. Martha is the only child not listed. Henry's occupation was given as gardener.
