GEORGE THOMAS McCALLUM, son of the Rev. William and Mrs. Annie McCallum, was born at Tenterfield on 14th September, 1893.

He was educated at Wollongong and entered the service of the Bank at Burwood on 3rd September, 1910. He was subsequently transferred to the Southern Branch in June, 1911; Western Branch in June, 1914; and to Edgecliff in April, 1915.

He enlisted on 10th January, 1916, and joined the 5th Divisional Train as driver. He landed in France on 16th November, 1916, and served on the Western Front until June, 1919, having received promotion to the rank of staff sergeant during his period of service.
